Apple has begun removing all of its Macs from EPEAT certification.

It turns out that Apple has removed all its Mac products from the EPEAT Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool certification. The reason is that the new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook Retina Display have resulted in the loss of EPEAT environmental certification .

 

To comply with EPEAT standards, products bearing this seal must be easily disassembled with common tools to separate toxic components such as batteries. However, an Apple representative informed Robert Frisbee, CEO of EPEAT , that the design direction the Cupertino company is pursuing will not be consistent with EPEAT requirements in the future, and that they are therefore removing their current and future products from certification—a total of 39 items including computers, monitors, and laptops.
