Apple gets down to business, aiming for a new space in San Francisco

There has been talk recently about Apple's plans to open an office space for its employees in San Francisco, but the opportunity to find a suitable location for it had never arisen.

However, the wait was worth it, because Apple is making a deal to lease around 76.000 square meters of space located in the SoMa sector of San Francisco, USA. This will be the first Apple center to open in the city, which will be beneficial for workers who live there and who currently have to commute to another city every day to get to work.

The agreement stipulates that Apple will sublease two floors of a building—currently occupied mostly by CBS Interactive offices. Sources from the San Francisco Business Times say the location would be ideal for Apple to establish a center for employees who live in San Francisco . Furthermore, both floors are large enough to accommodate 500 workers. However, rent in some areas of the building is expensive, reaching up to $66 per square meter.

            But despite the price, Apple has shown great interest, as the space could be beneficial for employees. In early 2014, a survey was conducted to determine how many San Francisco employees had to travel by Apple bus to the outlying offices outside the city. The survey revealed that 14% of these employees live in San Francisco and must commute to another city for work. Currently, the company is exploring options to expand its workspaces to launch new projects. More space is needed for employees working on the Apple Music project so they can have a spacious and easily accessible environment. Therefore, having an office center in San Francisco could be advantageous for employees, as they wouldn't have to lose several hours commuting.
