Apple releases OS X Server 3.1 developer previews

Apple has just released the details of its new OS X Server 3.1 developer release. The beta update requires OS X 10.9.2 on the target machine and has build number 13S4090c.

 

This developer preview focuses on:

  • Profile Manager using a self-signed certificate: the invalid certificate sheet may not appear after saving login credentials, using Safari 7.0.2. The workaround is to navigate back and then forward in Safari.
  • The "Enable VPP Managed Distribution Service" checkbox is stuck in a state indicating "VPP information processing…". The workaround is to click the Refresh button in the bottom toolbar to force an update.
  • Upgrading to OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks disables WebDAV on Wiki Server.
  • To restore the shared Wiki points on WebDAV client upgrades, run the following command in the terminal: sudo apachectl restart
  • In Xcode Server, automated logic tests are run in the simulator that may fail with an error similar to the following: "Test Target (Test Name) encountered an error in the (Test Process that terminated with code 1)."
  • In the server's caching system, after a migration from OS X Snow Leopard Server to OS X Server 3.1, the data directory is not created. The workaround is to convert the Caching Server service.

Developers can download the update from the Mac Developer Center or through Software Update.

Requirements :

To install OS X Server, you need one of these computers:

  • iMac (mid-2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (late 2008 aluminum, or early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (mid/late 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)
  • Mac mini (early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (early 2009) 

Your Mac must have:

  • OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks.
  • At least 2 GB of RAM.
  • At least 10 GB of available disk space (50 GB if you want to use Caching Server).
  • Installation instructions.
  • Install the OS X Server 3.1 update on a computer running OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks.
  • Check if this update is compatible with OS X Lion Server 10.7.5 and OS X Server 2.2.2 and the OS X Server 3.0.2 or later update.
