Apple Maps adds hotel photos from TripAdvisor and Booking.com
In recent days, it appears that Apple Maps has gained in-app support and imagery from two new sources. Since its launch, Apple Maps has only supported reviews from companies like Yelp, but now it seems the app is integrating user content from TripAdvisor and Booking.com for hotels, as seen below.
At this point, there doesn't seem to be any criterion for which content you'll see from Yelp, Booking.com, or TripAdvisor . Although, Booking.com appears to be much more prevalent internationally than the other two sources. Regardless of which of the three sources appears, however, you'll only see images and reviews from that one source, without the option to view data from the other two within the app.
As of this post, Apple has not acknowledged adding Booking.com and TripAdvisor data to its Maps app. On the company's website, Yelp remains the only listed data source.
It's only a matter of time before Apple adds more sources to its Maps app, since its launch in 2012. The feature has always included Yelp reviews, allowing users to read information without leaving the app. However, the Cupertino-based company still intends to add Booking.com or TripAdvisor to its list of sources on the Maps confirmation page.
According to the images, Yelp information is not displayed in either situation, a fact that can be verified on their website. In any case, having information from all three websites will undoubtedly be very helpful to users. However, it's not entirely clear how all three will be integrated into the feature. The Cupertino-based company appears to be working hard to improve Apple Maps by adding more cities, features, and even 3D imagery.
