Apple to change policy of new 'Apple Music' app after criticism from Taylor Swift

Apple has reconsidered and taken a new step regarding Apple Music

Apple was forced to change its policy for the new Apple Music app after receiving criticism and protests from singer Taylor Swift . Apple Music is Apple's new music streaming service, and since the launch of the catalog of artists that will be part of the music library, it was established that the app would have a completely free trial period lasting no less than three months.

However, the controversy began when the singer appeared on the list of artists joining Apple Music without having agreed to all the terms of the contract. Apple employed a marketing strategy to pressure the artists; however, for many, being part of an Apple project guarantees a successful path in their music career. Therefore, many independent artists might accept the offer simply because of the pressure of being part of Apple Music.

Taylor Swift was the only artist who publicly expressed her opinion about the contract – through her Tumblr blog – and spoke out in the media to defend and support all those independent artists who would not receive any benefit or payment for 3 months.

The controversy lingered until Apple itself announced it would change the initial terms to provide more benefits to new or independent artists. However, that wasn't enough to stop thousands of people from reading the words the artist kindly posted online.

In response, Apple Vice President Eddy Cue added and commented via his Twitter account :

            Furthermore, in 2014 the artist removed her entire catalog from 'Spotify', arguing that the industry's business has drastically reduced over the years and that sales figures have decreased accordingly.
