Apple will unveil the new iPad on October 22nd
All the rumors pointed to a mid-month event, and now we have a credible report from the reputable AllThingsD saying that Apple has scheduled the iPad event for October 22nd. As is tradition for Apple, the 22nd falls on a Tuesday. AllThingsD says the event will be invitation-only, as is customary for Apple, and the focus will be on the iPad 5 , as well as the second-generation iPad mini . But it seems there will also be time for the unveiling of the next macOS update, codenamed Mavericks, as well as the new Mac Pro.
The new iPad is expected to be thinner and lighter, although it appears it will be smaller thanks to reduced bezels. The device is expected to feature Apple's new A7 processor. The new iPad Mini is also expected to have the same processor and include a Retina display. While it's a possibility, it's not yet known for sure whether either device will incorporate the fingerprint reader introduced by Apple in the iPhone 5s.
If the announcement is indeed made on October 22nd, the devices are expected to be available for purchase by the beginning of the month. However, there have been persistent rumors of significant supply issues with the iPad mini , so quantities of this particular model could be very limited to begin with.
