Apple and Amazon end their dispute over the "App Store" trademark
Apple and Amazon had been embroiled in a legal battle since 2011 over the use of the term "App Store ," registered by Apple in 2008 and quickly popularized after the success of its app store. Amazon argued that it was a generic, commonly used term that they could use freely, while Apple countered that it was a trademark that became popular when Apple began using it and that its use by other companies could cause confusion among users. Well, now they've changed their minds.
“We no longer see the need to pursue the case ,” says Apple spokesperson Kristin Huguet . “With over 900.000 apps and 50.000 billion downloads, users know where they can buy their favorite apps.”
“Apple has decided to unilaterally drop the case and let Amazon freely use 'appstore',” said Amazon lawyer Martin Glick.
And in a way Apple is not wrong, after 5 years since the launch of this store users know perfectly well that there are different stores and that not all of them are the same.
