AT&T sues Verizon over 'There's a Map For That' ad
Hello iPhone users, you've probably already seen this ad. Yes, it's the one where Verizon is clearly attacking AT&T's exclusivity on the iPhone. In that ad, Verizon openly criticizes the poor coverage of the largest GSM operator in the United States.
Well, AT&T has sued Verizon for airing this advertisement on American TV. The ad shows several real-life scenarios where a Verizon user and an AT&T user perform the same tasks on their devices, but the AT&T user... It supposedly suffers from outages precisely because of an alleged lack of coverage.
On the demand, AT&T claims that Verizon is trying to mislead users with advertising by using maps with large blank spaces that indicate a lack of AT&T coverage, and not just 3G coverage.. "By stating that AT&T has no coverage in much of the country, Verizon is trying to mislead the public regarding one of the core components of AT&T's offering.".
Verizon, for its part, says the lawsuit is unfounded, stating that its advertising It clearly explains what it is expressly referring to regarding the lack of 3G coverage. The Verizon spokesperson explains that it is very strange that AT&T is taking the wrong approach to Verizon's advertising; he also states that the map clearly shows the areas where AT&T does not have 3G coverage.
