How to silence calls on your Apple Watch with a simple gesture
There are times when ringtones are unwelcome, such as when you're in a meeting, at the library, or even at the movies. It's very common for people to forget to silence their device before going somewhere where a simple call could cause discomfort or disturb others. Luckily, the Apple Watch includes features that allow you to silence incoming phone calls and other alerts with just a few simple gestures.
How to silence your Apple Watch with your palm
- First we go to My Watch > Sounds & Haptics to ensure that the option of Cover to Mute is active.
- When a call comes in at an inconvenient time, simply cover the screen completely with the palm of your hand and wait three seconds; this will silence the call.
- Through a small pulse on our wrist, the Apple Watch will let us know when call alerts on the device are silenced.
We must keep in mind that when performing this method, the Apple Watch will only silence call notifications, leaving timers and alarms unchanged.
How does the mute option differ from Airplane Mode and Do Not Disturb?
When you silence the Apple Watch using the palm of your hand, you can see that the haptic feedback is still working; on the other hand, Do Not Disturb mode silences both sounds and haptic feedback, preventing you from feeling or hearing any alerts.
In the case of Airplane Mode, the function disables some features of the device: Radio, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, preventing the iPhone from receiving any type of notifications while it remains in that mode.
