Disable Force Touch features on Macbook computers

by Lisander González / July 5, 2015 7:19 PM EDT

In its latest Mac models, Apple has focused on testing new technologies to enhance the user experience. One of the most recent additions to Mac laptops is Force Touch. The latest models in this line now feature a trackpad with integrated Force Touch.

This new touch technology used by Apple features a click function that hasn't been fully explained to all MacBook users. While a single click on the trackpad is visible, a second, firmer press, similar to a secondary mouse button, activates certain functionalities, such as data detection (e.g., the dictionary and thesaurus) and Quick Look.

Many users who have mastered this technology have found Force Touch very helpful , but for others, it's a nuisance. And while Apple may have thought it was what all users needed, that wasn't entirely true. If you find this feature annoying, it's easy to disable it to avoid further trackpad problems :

  1. The first thing you'll do is open the Apple menu, and go to the System Preferences option.
  2. Select Trackpad preferences, and below, click on the Point & Click tab.
  3. Proceed to uncheck the Force Click and Vibration box to disable the Force Click functions.
  4. Close the preferences window and you'll be able to work with your computer normally.

Once you've completed the entire procedure, you'll be able to press firmly on the trackpad without activating any Force Touch features. The preferences section for this functionality will only be available if your device has a Force Touch trackpad.
