How to downgrade iOS 6 to 5.1.1. This is possible if you have the SHSH blobs for the version you want to downgrade. It only applies to A4 devices , which are: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch 4. Below is a guide with screenshots that you can follow to downgrade your iOS and enjoy the untethered jailbreak.

Requirements:

  • Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4
  • It requires having SHSH 5.1.1 or the version you are going to install.
  • Download RedSnow
  • Have the version you want to download downloaded on your computer.

Not compatible with:

  • iPhone 4s
  • iPhone 5
  • iPod Touch 5G
  • iPad 2
  • iPad3
  • iPad Mini
  • iPad-Retina

Remember: IF YOU DON'T HAVE SHSH CHANNEL YOU CAN'T DO THIS. PLEASE DON'T ASK HOW TO DO IT WITHOUT SHSH CHANNEL. WE ALL KNOW THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE.

Note: On September 27th, a post was published stating that downgrading is possible without SHSH blobs. Personally, I've been using iPhones and downgrading for years, and without my SHSH blobs, no method has worked for me.

Step 1: Place iOS 5.1.1 and SHSH in the same folder

Step 2: Connect the device to the computer and put it into DFU mode

  • We hold down the Home + Power buttons for 10 seconds.
  • After those 10 seconds, we release the Power button, but we keep the Home button for another 10 seconds.
  • When that time has passed, the device's screen should be completely black, as if it were turned off.

Step 3: Open RedSn0w, and click on Extras > SHSH blobs > Stitch.

Step 4: Next, click on and select the IPSW iOS 5.1.1 for your device.

Step 5: If your SHSH files are stored in Cydia , click on the Cydia section instead of choosing the IPSW.

Step 6: Once you have selected the IPSW , click next and it will begin creating the modified firmware to downgrade to version 5.1.1.

Step 7: Once you've finished creating the firmware, go back to RedSnow and put your device into Pwned DFU mode . This will put the device into DFU mode so iTunes can restore it with the created firmware . If you don't do this, you'll receive error 1600 in iTunes.

Step 8 : Once in DFU mode, open iTunes , and it should detect the device in recovery mode. Hold down Option and click Restore. If you're on Windows, use SHIFT to click Restore and select your created IPSW file to perform the downgrade.

Step 9 : iTunes will begin restoring your device. While it's restoring, you may see an error -1 in iTunes. Don't worry.

Step 10 : Open RedSn0w and click Extras > select Recovery Fix

Step 11 : At this point, your device will be connected to the USB cable and displaying the iTunes logo. What you're going to do is put it back into DFU mode.

  • We hold down the Home + Power buttons for 10 seconds.
  • After those 10 seconds, we release the Power button, but we keep the Home button for another 10 seconds.
  • When that time has passed, the device's screen should be completely black, as if it were turned off.

Once in DFU mode, tap Next on RedSnow and your iPhone or iPod Touch will reboot . When finished, it will be restored to version 5.1.1.
