How do I fix error 48 in iTunes when trying to restore my iPhone 4s?

I've tried almost everything already, and it's a shame that this issue isn't moving forward.
For those who want to try it, since that's how I managed to get one with error 48 out, disconnect the home button flex cable, it may have gotten stuck on more than one of you, you have nothing to lose.
Unfortunately, the one I want to repair (a 64GB one) is not responding. I hope you will continue to contribute to the discussion and share a solution when you find one.
Let me know if the flex cable trick worked for you. If it works, flash it with the flex cable loose. If it does, great! Just replace the button afterward and you're all set. For those of us still stuck, we'll keep looking for solutions.
