Ashley TownsHello iPhone users, When the 21-year-old Australian, Ashley Towns He released what would become the first virus for the iPhone/iPod Touch, never imagining that a week later he would receive hundreds of death threats, be interviewed by various media outlets, receive numerous job offers, or see his personal information published online along with a photo of himself. The creator of the virus for the released iPhones/iPod Touch has made a statement indicating that what he did was "stupid."

According to Towns, a few days ago he read on a blog (hopefully it was iPhoneate) that users with jailbroken iPhones/iPod Touches were being warned to change their passwords to prevent hackers from accessing their devices via SSH. So, he decided to test how many people had done so, checking the iPhones/iPod Touches on his network. He found that none of them had changed their passwords, and even worse, many didn't even have a password.

All of this motivated the young hacker to get to work and create the Rick Astley virus, which as we explained a few days ago It changed the wallpaper on affected iPhones to a photo of singer Rick Asteley. "The virus itself isn't malicious and isn't there to cause harm; it's simply for fun and to wake people up a bit."

The young man also said that he personally introduced the virus into approximately 100 iPhones/iPod Touches and didn't think it would affect more than 15 or 20 other iPhones/iPod Touches. The problem is that the virus spreads through contact, which explains why so many devices were affected. When questioned about this, the virus creator said:

  • What I did was actually pretty stupid. The truth is, I didn't think about the legal consequences at the time. I honestly didn't think it would go this far. It was one of those things I just wrote without thinking.

This proves it: in the world there are intelligent people, stupid people, and intelligent people who act like stupid people.
