The US Department of Defense approved the use of Apple devices

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Defense approved the use of various mobile devices by its employees, including Apple devices. This means that Pentagon employees and other military personnel may choose to use these Apple devices in addition to Samsung and BlackBerry devices.

 

Bloomberg reported that Apple devices running iOS 6 or later , including iPhones and iPads , can be used by the Department of Defense . This makes Apple the third company whose devices have received security approval at the Pentagon—the previous two being BlackBerry and Android devices.

The U.S. Air Force expects to save $50 million over the next 10 years by using iPads. This is due to a reduction in the weight of flight equipment, including manuals. It's worth noting that American Airlines had already received approval to use the devices as part of its flight equipment.
