Is Apple's A7 processor manufactured by Samsung?

 

Sources such as Chipworks , through a report, have just determined that the new A7 processor in the iPhone 5S was made by Samsung.

This information will surely surprise us, but according to this source and a meticulous analysis of the device , they confirm that the A7 processor was indeed manufactured by Samsung, and more results are expected soon as the analysis continues.

Thus indicating that: “We have confirmed through an initial analysis that the device was manufactured at the Samsung Foundry and we are going to confirm the type of process they used in its manufacture.”

On the other hand , Chipworks assures that the process used in the manufacture of the A7 is very similar to the one used in the production of the Exynos processor , used in the Galaxy S4.

And if we recap, this news may well turn out to be just a rumor. An article published at the time claimed that Apple was joining forces with TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing), a company that manufactures processors.

Now, we can deduce that this company probably wasn't yet prepared for the high demand that Apple's new iPhone would have among its consumers; something that Samsung could easily handle.

It should be noted that the M7 is the co-processor in the iPhone 5S, and that it was not manufactured by Samsung but by a company in the Netherlands called NXP Semiconductor.

We'll be waiting for those results, as this move between Apple and Samsung is generating a lot of buzz. For now, we'll see if Apple decides to switch manufacturers, or if they're indeed working with Samsung.
