Facebook wants to buy Waze, according to rumors

Hello iPhoneate friends, here's another news item to keep you entertained. Rumors are circulating that the navigation and mapping app Waze has received an offer of around $1.000 billion to be acquired by Facebook, according to reports this morning in the Israeli press. Waze had already rejected a $500 million offer from Apple recently.

They say that negotiations between the two companies began about six months ago, so the talks are already quite advanced.

The main point of contention would be whether to keep Waze's operations in Israel, where it originated, or to move everything to the United States, which is what Facebook has done with two previous Israeli acquisitions (Snaptu and Face.com).

So far, neither company has confirmed anything. For Facebook, the acquisition would be beneficial, considering its strong focus on mobile phones and its years-long efforts to create a check-in system with discounts at businesses, where Waze could fit in.

Waze is now a widely used service in Latin America, and after the acquisition – if it goes through – we don't know if the features that everyone has come to love about the service will be maintained.
