Firefox will not return to iOS until Apple changes its rules

The mobile browser market is very uneven on iOS, with Safari Mobile undoubtedly dominating the platform and competitors like Chrome (and a future Opera based on WebKit) capturing the attention of some users. And... MozillaThe people in charge of Firefox have decided that They're not going to invest effort in a Firefox for iOS.

Mozilla had some apps like Firefox Home that allowed a certain level of data synchronization between the iOS browser and the Firefox instances on your computer. But the app was discontinued last year, and there's no full Firefox browser, mainly because Apple doesn't allow competing rendering engines to run on the device. It's either WebKit or nothing.

This even affects Chrome itself, which can't use the latest version of WebKit because Apple is keeping it to give Safari an advantage. Faced with this situation, Mozilla has warned its user community that they won't waste time trying to release a Firefox version for iOS. And they won't change their minds unless Apple modifies its policy.

We can't point fingers : Apple can do whatever it wants with the rules of its own platform, and Firefox can do the same with its browser. The bad news is that we already know Cupertino's stance on this, and consequently, millions of iOS users lose yet another way to browse the internet.
