Google buys Motorola Mobility
Apple and iOS's direct competitor is Android, Google's open-source mobile operating system; now Google is stepping up its game and buying Motorola Mobility for a price of US$12.500 billionThis move by Google is intended to grow the Android system and the future devices that comprise it. The Google blog states: “Together, we will create amazing user experiences that will supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners, and developers.” With this new move, it is known and believed that Google is going all out against Apple and the power of iOS and Apple products, including the iPad, a product that is significantly impacting other brands.
The official blog discusses the topic of patents, Apple and Microsoft's attacks on Google and Android:
“We recently explained how companies including Microsoft and Apple are colluding in anti-competitive attacks against Android (…) Our acquisition of Motorola will increase competition and strengthen Google’s patent portfolio , allowing us to better protect Android from anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple, and other companies.”
Google acquires 17.000 patents through the purchase by Motorola; the war begins and no one knows who will win. As always, we could be the ones who benefit, in products, services, and prices.
