Hacking iPhones at the Campus Party #CPMX5

iPhoneate is present at the Campus-Party and we meet a hacker who explains a little about how phones are hacked.

The theory is this… when you connect to a Wi-Fi network, it is saved on the iPhone/iPod/iPad, and when the iDevice detects it again, it automatically connects to this network without you noticing.

Now imagine that a hacker takes advantage of this and creates a network called "Infinitum Mobile," which is a widely used network in Mexico because it's free for Telmex users. This hacker creates a program to inject data into your smartphone, making the phone think it's communicating with Apple's servers, like iMessage with Apple. In this case, it's a fake server the hacker created, allowing them to steal your data. They also use a program to decrypt that data so they can read your information.

 

It's obvious that not just anyone can achieve this, as it requires extensive study and experience. It's also not very common to encounter a hacker of that magnitude, since they aren't interested in just anyone's data, only those who can earn a substantial reward. So don't worry, it's quite possible you'll never encounter a hacker.
