Will iOS 5 not be compatible with the iPhone 3GS?
In the months leading up to the release of iOS 5, several features it might include, such as new notifications and cloud streaming, have already been revealed. However, a new rumor has surfaced today regarding which devices the new iOS will support. According to a tweet from Russian analyst Eldar Murtazin, iOS 5 will not be compatible with the iPhone 3GS.
This means that the only phones compatible with iOS 5 would be the iPhone 4 and its successor, which could be released in the coming months, leaving the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS with iOS 4 as their latest operating system. The reasons for this could be several: a processor too slow to run the new system's features, or some functionality in iOS 5 that, due to hardware limitations, cannot be used on an older iPhone.
