iPhone 15 Pro: New USB-C port
Rumors about the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro are in full swing, and the possible features that could come with this new device are even more so.
While there's no official confirmation from Apple, a number of leaks and speculations are generating excitement among users. Much of this focuses on the inclusion of a new Lightning to USB-C connector for both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. Here are the latest details on what we know so far:
- Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhone 15 models in September.
- The iPhone 15 Pro models will have a USB-C port, which will provide a more universal charging standard.
- The integration of the A17 Bionic chip is also expected. This chip will be manufactured using TSMC's advanced 3nm process, in order to improve performance and energy efficiency compared to the 5nm A16 Bionic chip.
- These same models are rumored to have ultra-thin bezels around the screen and a titanium frame, as opposed to the stainless steel frame of the iPhone 14 Pro.
- Finally, it is expected that the iPhone 15 models will come equipped with a customizable action button, similar to the one on the Apple Watch Ultra. This will allow users to assign various system functions to the new switch, such as: Ring/Silent, Do Not Disturb, Flashlight, Low Power Mode, etc.
Will the USB-C connector be available for the iPhone 15 Pro?
After several years of back and forth, the European Union has officially reached an agreement on a common charging port standard. Therefore, starting in 2024, all smartphones sold in the 27 EU countries will be required to use USB-C for charging. This includes iPhones and even peripheral accessories like AirPods.
Despite Apple's opposition to legislation mandating the use of USB-C on iPhones, the law passed by an overwhelming majority, with 602 votes in favor, 13 against, and 8 abstentions. Finally, to complete the process, the USB-C law was officially registered and came into effect on December 27, 2022. According to the law, companies have until December 28, 2024, to comply with the mandate through new smart presentations. This could technically give Apple until 2025 to formally comply with the USB-C standard, but the expectation is that it will do so before then.
LET US REMEMBER: Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted last year that the iPhone 15 would arrive with a USB-C port for charging and data transfer. This report was finally corroborated in an interview with Apple marketing executive Greg Joswiak, who stated that Apple will have no choice but to comply with EU legislation, effectively confirming that the iPhone with USB-C will arrive sooner rather than later.
