A shortage of the fingerprint sensor is limiting iPhone 5S production.

 

For several months, rumors have circulated that the new iPhone 5S would feature a fingerprint sensor . Recent reports suggest that this fingerprint sensor would be located beneath the home button , with a raised surface.

Digitimes reported today that iPhone 5S production will be limited to 3-4 million units in Q3 2013 due to a shortage of the fingerprint sensors used in the device.

Production of Apple's next iPhone , commonly known as the iPhone 5S, is expected to begin on September 10th , according to industry sources. Interestingly, the

Mass production of the fingerprint sensors was originally scheduled to begin in May in Taiwan . However, the production of the sensors is believed to be one of the main reasons why the manufacturing of the new devices has been delayed.

On the other hand, it's been suggested that the delay is due to integration issues between the sensor and the iOS 7 software . Sources claim that Apple and its suppliers will be able to ramp up production by the end of August.

The iPhone 5S is practically confirmed for September 10th , where Apple could unveil an iPhone 5C , a low -cost device with a variety of colors for users.
