Hello iPhone users, the company is using Siri in a series of ads to showcase the Apple tablet; however, several iPad fans are accusing Microsoft of lying in the advertising.

Microsoft could be credited with releasing a couple of funny TV ads that, unlike those dreadful commercials starring Jerry Seinfeld in 2008, are not cringeworthy.

However, in the Windows tablet ads first aired last week, Microsoft used Siri to criticize the iPad, and some Apple supporters didn't find them funny at all.

The AppleInsider headline set the tone for the criticism: 'Microsoft caught lying about tablet size in comparison to Apple's iPad'.

Among the accusations we have seen, the main ones are:

  • Microsoft cheats on scaling, presenting the 10.1-inch diagonal screen of the ASUS VivoTab Smartas if it were 36% larger than the iPad's 9.7-inch screen, when in reality the ASUS screen area is 3.55% smaller (Discovered by Elliot Temple of the Curi.us website.)
  • The error is repeated in the web advertisement that Microsoft placed on its website, which describes the ASUS tablet as having a "larger touchscreen." That phrase has since been removed.
  • PC World called one of the TV ads "hilarious," but in fairness, they pointed out that while Siri says it can't run PowerPoint, it can open PowerPoint presentations and run Keynote, which is superior in many ways. Furthermore, it's up to Microsoft to finally get its Office apps on the iPad.
  • PC World also points out that the price comparison – $699 for the 64GB iPad versus $449 for the 64GB VivoTab – fails to mention that the 32GB iPad has a base price of $499.
  • And as the tech website The Verge points out, the ads "conveniently ignore the iPad's strengths," such as better resolution, longer battery life, and many more apps to choose from.
