How can I restore an iPhone 5 that came with iOS 8.1.3 without updating it, but I never synced it to a computer?

The phone keeps turning on and off, it won't get past the Apple logo. I put it in the restore mode and it stays on while connected and the cable is visible. I want to restore it but not upgrade it to a newer version so I can unlock it. I want to know how I can restore it without upgrading to iOS. I would appreciate any help. During the restore process, I want to see if the problem is the battery or the logic board.
