I can use my iPod Touch but I can't add my iCloud account to it

I recently bought a used laptop from a friend. It came with the box, accessories, receipt—everything was legal. The laptop had iTunes and a backup installed, which I accidentally put onto my iPod Touch. Now it keeps asking for her Apple ID. I'd like to restore it from scratch, but I'm afraid that setting it up will ask for her Apple ID again and I'll lose the device. I can use it and everything, but I can't download anything; I can only add music. If I restore it, will it not ask for the Apple ID from the backup I put on it?
