According to reports, Apple is experiencing performance issues with the IC, which is why the iPhone 5S manufacturing is delayed.

 

New reports detail the reasons for the delay in the production of the new iPhones, and everything seems to indicate that one of the problems for the company lies in the performance of the IC.

Much has been said about the delay in the manufacturing of the iPhone 5S, and it's no wonder, since it seems the issues are linked to the poor performance of the fingerprint recognition chips. In addition, it's said that the integrated circuits of the LCD controller are probably the biggest difficulty that has forced Apple to reduce shipments in the first quarter with respect to the iPhone 5S.

All this media attention is putting pressure on the company, since there has been much talk about a planned launch for September of this year, 2013, according to industry sources.

In this DigiTimes article, the company mentions a problem, stating that: “The fingerprint recognition chip is designed by AuthenTec, which Apple acquired for $356 million in July 2012. Issues related to the original chip design are said to have caused the lower performance rates. The article adds that Apple outsources the production of the fingerprint recognition chips to Taiwan (TSMC) and the chip packaging to Xintec.” It's worth noting that Xintec employs an innovative service (WL-CSP), whose technology is considered among the most advanced on the market.

Finally, we can note that the report goes on to state that production for the new device was initially scheduled to begin in late June or early July, but due to performance issues, production will be delayed until late July.

That is why Jeffries analyst Peter Misek recently indicated that: "Small batch production of the iPhone 5S began last month, with production eventually showing a gradual increase by the end of this month."

With all these production issues and performance problems plaguing the highly anticipated device, all we can do is wait and see how things turn out. We anticipate that Apple's iPhone 5S will finally launch this fall.
