Spotify gets an update with new widgets on iOS 14
Spotify has released an update to its iOS app today, adding support for widgets on the home screen. This follows a beta testing period and comes after Spotify tested iOS 14 widgets with beta users last week.
That's why the Music app has been updated for iPhone and iPad. It provides quick access to playlists, artists, albums, and podcasts. The widget is available in small and medium sizes.

Spotify's widget selection is quite limited, as the company only offers access to the last two widgets, "Played." We should remind our users that these widgets allow them to "quickly access recently played playlists, albums, or podcasts ."
Another interesting detail is that the Spotify widget's smart appearance changes color based on recently played content. For example, if the playlist you recently listened to has a blue cover image, the widget's background will adapt to match that color. The widget seems to update relatively quickly once the recently played content changes.
How to add a Spotify widget to your iOS 14 home screen?
- To access the widget, update the Spotify app to version 8.5.80 or later and open the app.
- Next, press and hold a widget or an empty area of the home screen until the app icons move.
- Tap the button «+" in the top left-hand corner.
- Search Spotify in the widgets list.
- Choose your preferred widget size.
- Spotify for iOS is available on the App Store as a free download.
- Remember: Home screen widgets require iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 or later.
Like other home screen widgets, this one only serves as a shortcut to various parts of the Spotify app. Apple doesn't allow home screen widgets to offer playback controls or switching due to battery life considerations.
