Synopsis: Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), the father of the Italian language, dedicated twelve years of his life to writing the Divine Comedy. Two biographical events—the death of his beloved Beatrice and his exile from his city, Florence—plunged him into a state of uncertainty and disillusionment that he only overcame through a universalizing poetry that bequeathed to future generations a work full of beauty and immortality, the foundation of medieval allegorical literature. In the Divine Comedy, Dante seeks to say "what has never been said of any woman": the exaltation of his beloved's celestial triumph, the expression of a love that transcends the physical dimensions of this world and becomes pure spirituality. The final result is a fantastic journey toward redemption that encompasses the entire existential narrative, from the creation of humankind to its ultimate destiny, divinity.
