Facebook Messenger and Instagram chats have officially merged, as the company rolls out the next phase of its planned unified messaging service for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

As a result of the chat service merger, Instagram users can now chat with Facebook users and vice versa, all within the same platform. Features previously only available on Facebook Messenger will now be accessible on Instagram, including colorful chats, more emoji reactions, and swipe-to-reply functionality.

Another significant change in this update is that the DM paper airplane icon in the top right corner of the Instagram interface will be replaced by the Facebook Chat logo. Read more »
