TSMC has reportedly already begun production of the A8 chip for the new iPhone.

We recently reported that the construction of the A8 chip had been postponed due to low production yields from certain companies, leading them to decline to manufacture the chip because of the high demand Apple would have for its upcoming devices.

Today, the news seems to take on a different meaning as we learn that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has apparently already begun production of the A8 chip for the new iPhone.

However, the AFP, in a short report, tells us the following:

“The world’s largest microchip manufacturer was contracted last month by a major company to begin producing the A8 chip . ” The report, citing supply chain sources, also stated that “ TSMC had secured the majority of manufacturing orders for the logic and power management components of the chips integrated into the new phone.”

And an announcement by the Times reveals that the A8 chip will be manufactured using a 20-nanometer process, and will include a 64-bit quad-core processor and quad-core graphics. With all these indications and details, it was concluded that production may have already begun years ago. This leads us to assume that Apple could possibly release the new iPhone in the third quarter of 2014.
